What Is a Secondment?

Secondments in APRISE are temporary mobility placements that allow selected talents to work at another APRISE partner organisation.

Secondments aim to:

  • Strengthen research, innovation, and professional skills
  • Promote cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Enhance international exposure and career development

Talents remain employed or enrolled at their home institution throughout the secondment.

Sending vs Host Organisations

  • Sending organisation:
The home institution employing or enrolling the talent, primarily based in Widening Countries.
  • Host organisation:
The APRISE partner receiving the talent and providing training, supervision, and access to specialised expertise or infrastructure.

Secondments are jointly planned to ensure mutual benefit and relevance.

Duration & Objectives

Secondment duration depends on:

  • Talent category (RT or AT)
  • Individual Career Development objectives
  • Work Package needs

Secondments focus on:

  • Skill acquisition and methodological training
  • Exposure to non-academic or international environments
  • Strengthening employability and career prospects

Career Development & Reintegration

Each APRISE Talent develops a Personal Career Development and Support Plan (PCDSP) prior to the secondment.

The reintegration phase ensures that:

  • Knowledge and skills gained are transferred back to the home institution
  • Talents contribute to institutional capacity building
  • Long-term impact is achieved beyond the mobility period
