We are pleased to announce the upcoming 42-hour online training on Consumer Science Aspects of Alternative Proteins, jointly delivered by Middle East Technical University (METU), IRTA and BİTKİDEN from 27 October 2026 to 11 February 2027.
Understanding consumer perceptions, preferences and behaviour is essential for supporting the development and acceptance of alternative protein products. This training addresses these challenges through three complementary components.
Part 1 – Understanding Consumer Behaviour toward Alternative Proteins (METU, 20 hours)
Led by Prof. Dr. Eminegül Karababa, this component explores the influence of motivations, values, perception, attitudes, identity, social relationships and culture on food choices. Participants will engage with academic readings, case studies, interactive discussions and a critical reading portfolio.
Part 2 – Consumer Perceptions and Behaviour: A Methodological Approach (IRTA, 20 hours)
This component introduces qualitative, quantitative, implicit and co-creation methods for studying consumer behaviour and translating consumer insights into alternative protein product development decisions.
Part 3 – Evidence-Informed Public Communication of Alternative Proteins (BİTKİDEN, 2 hours)
Delivered by Ebru Akdağ, this interactive session examines responsible science communication, the spread of misinformation and effective approaches to communicating scientific evidence about alternative proteins.
Training Format and Participation
The training combines live online sessions, recordings, required readings and self-paced assignments. No prior knowledge of consumer behaviour, marketing or consumer research is required.
Live participation is strongly encouraged, while recordings and learning materials will support Talents who cannot attend every session. Registration and completion of the pre-assessment are required by the announced deadline.
