Basic Statistical Analysis of Extremes
We are pleased to announce the upcoming APRISE Online Training School course “Basic Statistical Analysis of Extremes”, a blended online course taking place from 24 August to 11 September 2026.
The course introduces fundamental statistical concepts and practical methods for analysing extreme events. Participants will work with course readings, slides, software, exercises, and real datasets, while taking part in live lectures, guided practical work, and discussions.
Throughout the course, participants will develop practical skills in the statistical analysis of extremes and will have the opportunity to apply selected methods in a small independent analysis, culminating in a short scientific report.
The training will be delivered by Dr. Manfred Mudelsee, a climate time-series analyst and statistician with more than three decades of experience in developing and applying quantitative methods to climate data. His work focuses particularly on robust statistical inference, climate extremes, nonstationary processes, resampling methods, and uncertainty quantification.
Online | 24 August – 11 September 2026
Participation is restricted to officially affiliated APRISE talents, researchers and staff from APRISE beneficiary institutions. Registration is not open to the public.
