As part of APRISE’s work on Policy Advocacy, Stakeholder Engagement, and Knowledge
Integration, project partner BİTKİDEN Derneği is supporting dialogue on the halal suitability
of alternative proteins in Türkiye. This initiative aims to bring scientific expertise, regulatory
perspectives, and industry representatives together to address questions surrounding the
development and acceptance of alternative protein products.
Under Work Package 4, Task 4.4, BİTKİDEN will lead the establishment of a panel
dedicated to examining the halal requirements of alternative proteins, with contributions from
Middle East Technical University, the Technology Development Foundation of Türkiye, and
Green Growth Platform.
Planned for the later stages of the project, the panel is expected to consist of five to seven
members, potentially including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry
of Türkiye, the Halal Accreditation Agency, food companies, and the Halal Food Council of
Europe. The final composition of the panel has yet to be determined.
The initiative will also provide APRISE talents in Türkiye with opportunities to engage directly
with regulatory authorities and industry stakeholders, gaining practical insights into the
scientific, regulatory, and commercial considerations surrounding halal compliance.
The panel’s findings will contribute to Deliverable D4.3 – Opinion Report, scheduled for
Month 48 of the project. Led by BİTKİDEN, the report will assess the halal status of
alternative proteins in Türkiye and document relevant perspectives and considerations.
Through this activity, APRISE aims to strengthen communication between researchers,
policymakers, and industry stakeholders, supporting informed discussions on the future of
alternative proteins and their suitability for different dietary requirements.
